Description
About the Utility Customers Association
The Utility Customers Association is a grassroots organization of utility customers fighting to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy – now and for generations to come.
UCA is focused on running and winning clear issue campaigns that can deliver meaningful victories for utility customers in New York. In the year ahead, we're working to remove barriers to battery storage in New York City and challenge outsized utility profits that drive up energy bills.
In the long run, our goal is to build a powerful statewide movement of utility customers who, together, can reshape the politics of New York's energy system so that it serves the people who depend on it every day.
The Senior Organizer Role

The Senior Organizer will design and execute campaigns that advance affordable, reliable, clean energy in New York. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable meeting one-on-one with community members, planning public actions, briefing legislators, speaking with reporters, and helping utility customers become confident public advocates for their own needs.
This role is ideal for someone who loves the pace of campaign work, genuinely enjoys meeting and organizing new people, and is energized by turning emerging opportunities into political momentum and measurable wins.
Core Responsibilities:
Run and win strategic policy campaigns
Develop and execute plans for one or more priority issue campaigns.
Respond quickly to political developments and adapt tactics to seize new opportunities.
Organize and develop grassroots leaders
Recruit and organize utility customers into our growing statewide membership organization.
Develop grassroots members into confident campaign leaders through one-on-one meetings, trainings, and other leadership development opportunities.
Mobilize grassroots members to influence legislative and regulatory decision-making.
Build and maintain a steady pipeline of new relationships with grassroots members, community leaders, and potential allies.
Build support for policy goals
Build productive relationships with elected officials, agency staff, and coalition partners.
Coordinate campaign strategy with allied organizations and identify opportunities for joint action.
Plan and execute creative public actions and other tactics that generate public attention and political momentum.
Serve as a public voice for UCA
Work with reporters to generate earned media around our policy priorities.
Represent UCA at rallies, press conferences and public events.
Communicate compellingly about UCA's mission, campaigns, and members.
The ideal candidate will have:
At least 5 years of organizing experience in an advocacy or political setting.
Experience working in communities with racial, ethnic, and class diversity.
A demonstrated understanding of what will move elected officials and decisionmakers to support campaign goals.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with allies, activists, and partner organizations.
A willingness to think creatively and strategically about compelling campaign tactics.
Thrives in entrepreneurial environments where new opportunities emerge quickly.
Experience juggling multiple near-term tasks to accomplish a long-term strategy
