We are seeking a highly motivated Policy and Advocacy Manager to join our Policy, Advocacy and Standards team. This is an exciting opportunity for a policy professional with strong financial services knowledge to contribute to meaningful industry reform and advocacy initiatives that support both members, the broader profession and consumers of financial advice.
In this role, you will help drive the Association’s policy and advocacy agenda through policy development, stakeholder engagement, research, member consultation, and high-quality submissions to government and regulators. You will work with senior leaders, regulators, industry stakeholders, and members to help influence outcomes that strengthen the financial advice profession.
About the role
Reporting to the GM Policy, Advocacy and Standards, the Policy and Advocacy Manager will play a key role in:
Developing clear and evidence-based policy positions
Preparing persuasive submissions and policy communications
Engaging with government, regulators, industry bodies and members
Supporting advocacy initiatives and stakeholder engagement strategies
Creating practical member guidance and policy tools
Maintaining strong internal and external relationships
Monitoring and recording policy and advocacy activity

Salary: $160k (Total Remuneration Package)
Location: Office location: 55 Clarence St, Sydney
There is flexibility with regards to working from home (WFH), with an expectation that a minimum of 2 days per week would typically be working from the Association’s offices.
Travel: Some domestic / interstate travel may be required.
Key responsibilities
Conduct policy research, analysis and member consultation to support the development of policy positions aligned with organisational objectives.
Prepare high-quality submissions, reports, briefing papers, presentations and other policy communications, including supporting speeches and communication materials.
Respond to member and stakeholder enquiries on policy matters in a timely and professional manner.
Build and maintain productive relationships with regulators, government, members and industry stakeholders, and support engagement plans aligned with advocacy priorities.
Assist with interactions involving politicians, regulators and other key decision-makers, while supporting committee operations and facilitating policy discussions.
Develop practical tools, guidance notes and educational resources relating to regulatory and policy reform.
Engage with members through forums, working groups, events and consultation activities to support policy development and implementation.
Represent the Policy and Advocacy team on internal projects, maintain records of policy and advocacy activities, and support collaboration across the organisation.

Requirements
About you
You are an emerging policy professional with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. You can understand and explain policy information clearly and concisely, and you work well collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
Skills and experience
Experience in policy, advocacy, government relations or regulatory affairs
Strong understanding of the financial services industry and financial advice profession
Experience developing policy positions, submissions and stakeholder communications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Experience using CRM systems, ideally Salesforce
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in commerce, law, economics, business, public policy, politics/government affairs, communications or a related discipline
Financial planning qualifications are desirable
