The Lakes Region Model Railroad Museum (LRMRM) is on the verge of an exciting new chapter. After years of development and volunteer-driven creation, we are preparing to transition from a start-up project into a fully operating museum. To guide us through this transformation, we are seeking an Executive Director with museum leadership experience, strategic vision, and a passion for community engagement.
About the Role
The Executive Director will lead LRMRM's transition from creation to operation, overseeing every aspect of organizational development, visitor experience, and long-term sustainability. This role offers the unique opportunity to shape the identity of a museum dedicated to interactivity, STEM education, and family-friendly exploration in a one-of-a-kind setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Finalize and oversee museum readiness, including layout completion, visitor flow, and landscaping
- Ensure technology and software provide a smooth, interactive experience for multiple users
- Develop and launch a public schedule, membership program, and PR/communications strategy
- Create and implement an encompassing marketing plan
- Lead market research to align programming with community and visitor interests
- Establish a long-term strategic plan, including funding and donor development
- Design and implement STEM-based educational programming for year-round engagement
- Recruit and onboard a permanent General Manager to carry the museum forward
- Work with the current board and cultivate a future board that governs an operational Museum

Qualifications
- Demonstrated museum leadership experience (required)
- Expertise in program management, marketing/communications, operations, and teamleadership
- Strong background in strategic planning and fundraising
- Mechanical and electronic aptitude
- Ability to inspire, organize, and engage volunteers
- Creative, adaptable, and motivated to transform vision into reality
