- Assistant General Manager
Description
Lake Monticello is located about 12 miles east of Charlottesville, VA. The private community encompasses about 3,500 acres, of which the lake itself represents about 350 acres with 22 miles of shoreline; approximately 12,000 residents on about 4,610 residential lots, including about 4,198 completed homes; 62 miles of private roads, a marina, a golf course, five beaches, a pool, court sports and other amenities. There are numerous other smaller lakes, ponds and streams situated in a mature oak forest with a steep topography in many areas.
Position Summary:
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a key role in the daily operations and long-term success of Lake Monticello Owners’ Association (LMOA). Working closely with the General Manager, the AGM supports day-to-day operations overseeing personnel, managing contracts, supporting departmental functions, resolving issues and engaging with residents and various stakeholders, such as Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Aqua, Committees, Fluvanna County Representatives, Contractors, etc. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, along with a commitment to serving a premier community where all residents enjoy a high quality of life in excellence and spirit.
Key Responsibilities:
Personnel Management
- Manages Personnel performance system, assist in leading all departments, to include the director/manager level and their respective teams.
- Knowledge and understanding around employee management and legal matters.
- Participate in the streamlining of process and look for opportunities for continual process improvements.
- Foster a positive and productive workplace culture aligned with LMOA’s mission and values.
- Manage employee training program
Contract Management
- Help review, manage, and monitor vendor and service contracts/agreements.
- Knowledge of all contracts with specific focus around Food & Beverage, Golf Operations, Pool Operations; Security, and Lake Health.
- Ensure contractors are meeting performance standards and contract obligations.
- Review and Assist with the bidding processes and contract renewals.
Departmental Oversight
- Regularly shadow department heads including Human Resources, Finance, Facility and Operations and Public Safety in order to have working knowledge and understanding of operations.
- Provide support in planning, problem-solving, and implementing process improvements.
- Act as liaison between departments and the General Manager for project coordination.
Community Engagement
- Respond to resident inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
- Network and engage in regular interaction with key stakeholders to include but not limited to Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire & Rescue (LMVFR), Aqua, Dominion/CVEC, Solitude, Allied Universal Security, and Fluvanna County.
- Support the planning and execution of community events. Be involved in all Committees from an aspect of understanding their charter, goals and purpose to the community.
- Promote transparency and strong communication between the Board of Directors (BOD), staff, and residents.
Other Responsibilities
- Assist in budgeting and financial monitoring to include the knowledge and understanding of Investments, Reserves, Reserve Study and budget cycle.
- Gain continual knowledge around Federal Law, POAA Law and LMOA Policies.
- Lead & track various timelines around BOD Governance; Elections, Annual Meeting, Budget cycle, Regular Board of Director Meetings, etc.
- Support & Assist the Board of Directors to ensure they fulfill their roles & responsibilities in accordance with POAA, and appropriate policies and procedures.
- Step in for the General Manager as needed during absences or special assignments.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) required.
- CAI and CMCA certifications (preferred).
- Experience and familiarity in property management, POAA operations, or community management.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. - Knowledge of POAA governance, applicable state regulations and LMOA Policies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and management software platforms.
Other Requirements
- Will require occasional or regular evening or weekend availability for meetings/events.
