TITLE: DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST
DEPARTMENT: DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (DDA)
PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION: MEDIUM
WAGE CLASS: EXEMPT, SALARIED
SALARY RANGE: $48,000 TO $55,000
Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and driven Downtown Development Specialist to join our team and help revitalize and enhance the downtown district. This individual will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing strategies to improve the downtown area's economic growth, infrastructure, and overall vibrancy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in urban development, community engagement, and project management.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Development: Collaborate with city officials, business owners, community organizations, and developers to create and implement downtown revitalization strategies. Identify opportunities for growth, improvement, and sustainable development.
Project Management: Oversee the planning and execution of downtown development projects, including infrastructure improvements, public spaces, and mixed-use developments. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with local businesses, residents, and stakeholders. Coordinate public meetings, workshops, and other forums to gather input and keep the community informed.
Grant and Funding Management: Research, apply for, and manage grants and funding opportunities that support downtown development initiatives. Ensure compliance with all requirements and effectively track and report progress.
Market Research & Analysis: Conduct studies and assessments of downtown trends, demographics, market conditions, and other factors that impact the success of development efforts. Utilize data to recommend improvements and investments.
Partnerships & Collaboration: Build partnerships with local government agencies, developers, non-profit organizations, and private sector businesses to advance downtown development goals.
Promotional & Marketing Support: Work with the marketing team to promote downtown events, projects, and improvements. Contribute to campaigns designed to increase tourism, business activity, and overall public interest in the area.
Administrative Duties: Oversee administrative functions of the Downtown Development Authority including, agenda prep, coordination of DDA meetings, development of annual operating and capital budgets, completion of required annual reports, etc.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Economic Development, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Some experience in urban planning, downtown development, real estate development, or a related field is desired.
Proven project management skills with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills and experience with market research and data analysis.
Knowledge of funding sources and grant writing is a plus.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desired Skills:
Familiarity with downtown development trends and best practices.
Experience in working with local governments, business improvement districts (BIDs), or economic development corporations.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
