Purpose: At the Maine State Visitor Information Centers, we create a 5-star first impression of Maine and assist visitors in creating their BEST Maine experience, incorporating member businesses, so they stay longer, explore more, and come back again.
Responsibilities:
- Greet all visitors in a warm and welcoming manner.
- Assist visitors with information regarding things to do (including events, attractions, activities, restaurants, etc.), accommodations, directions, and travel information. Assist visitors in person, over the phone/email, or via Live Chat (specified Centers).
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Complete all required training modules, including continuing training.
- Stay up to date on Maine and about Maine Tourism Association members, including events, attractions, activities, travel routes, transportation, seasonal and weather conditions, etc.
- Use Maine Tourism Association resources (website, member publications, digital kiosk) as primary resources for visitor information, designated websites as secondary resources, and other web-based information when MTA resources are unavailable.
- Keep publication racks filled and ensure all member publications are displayed at all times.
- Open and close the Center as scheduled (cash counts, reports, powering up/down, locking up).
- Track and order publication inventory in the CRM (database) application.
- Transact lottery payouts and sales of Park passes and non-resident fishing/hunting licenses, assist with lottery machine purchases (in Centers where these services are offered).
- Alert custodial staff of any issues on the property requiring attention. In Centers without custodial staff, maintain the cleanliness of the Center.
- Be prepared for emergencies and contact authorities in accordance with the emergency response plan.
- Follow all procedures and policies in the Employee Handbook and Travel Counselor “How To” manual.
Requirements:
- Enthusiasm for Maine’s destinations.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications (internet, email, Office Suite, social media).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Basic map-reading skills.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds.
