Description
Legal Aid Service of Broward County (LAS) seeks an experienced and visionary Executive Director (ED) to lead this respected nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to justice for low-income communities.
LAS’s mission is to provide high-quality, free civil legal advice, representation, and education to the disadvantaged residents of Broward and Collier Counties, improving the living conditions and stability of low-income individuals and families while promoting long-term self-sufficiency.
LAS operates offices in Plantation, Naples, and Immokalee, Florida, and is supported through a combination of federal, state, and county grants, as well as generous contributions from charitable foundations, organizations, and private donors. LAS is not funded by the Legal Services Corporation.
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the organization and is responsible for strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial stewardship. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors and leads a team of more than 100 attorneys, advocates, and professional staff dedicated to providing client-centered legal services.
Key Leadership Priorities
The next Executive Director will play a critical role in strengthening and expanding LAS’s impact. Key priorities include:
- Serving as the public face of LAS and strengthening partnerships with legal advocacy groups, community organizations, and governmental entities at the local and state levels
- Providing thoughtful policy and advocacy leadership to staff and advancing initiatives that improve access to justice
- Leading efforts to expand and diversify financial support for the organization’s mission
- Managing LAS with a commitment to transparency, open communication, and teamwork
- Supporting staff in delivering high-quality, client-centered legal services through professional development and modern technology resources
- Leading strategic planning and priority-setting initiatives that position the organization for continued growth and impact
- Enhancing LAS’s capacity to address current and emerging client needs, including the adoption of technology to expand services and increase operational efficiency
- Working collaboratively with the Board and leadership team to strengthen staff compensation and benefits, including salaries and retirement benefits
- Overseeing continued improvements to office space, equipment, and technology infrastructure
- Cultivating a productive and effective working relationship with the Board of Directors
- Leading an organization recognized for effective client-centered advocacy through both direct service and systemic impact strategies
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to access to justice and demonstrated leadership experience in complex organizations. Preferred qualifications include:
- A demonstrated passion for LAS’s mission and a clear vision for the organization’s future
- Attorney in good standing, licensed in Florida
- Substantial connections to South Florida
- Successful leadership experience in a multi-million-dollar nonprofit organization, preferably within legal services or a similarly mission-driven organization
- At least ten years of legal practice experience
- At least seven years of senior management experience, including supervision of a large professional staff (100 or more employees), financial oversight and reporting, budget development, and compliance with grant and contract requirements
- Demonstrated success in resource development, including fundraising, grant writing, and cultivating philanthropic support
- Experience working effectively with organizations and individuals representing diverse perspectives and communities

Compensation and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience and based on a competitive public interest salary scale.
