Description
Join a high-visibility team shaping the firm's risk and control environment. You'll drive strategic change, lead a global team, and deliver best‑in‑class governance, innovation, and operational excellence across the Commercial & Investment Bank (CIB). If you thrive in complex environments and enjoy partnering with senior leaders, this role is for you.As an Executive Director of Control Governance within the Commercial & Investment Bank Central Control Management Team, you set strategy and lead a global team to enhance the governance framework, align with firmwide standards and regulatory expectations, and deliver robust oversight of risk and control activities. You will partner closely with senior business, risk, and control leaders to drive best‑in‑class governance, reporting, and escalation processes that support CIB's strategic objectives.
Job Responsibilities
- Design and continuously improve the CIB control governance framework aligned with firm policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Define and own end‑to‑end control risk and governance strategy aligned to the firm's risk appetite and business priorities.
- Lead and operate key governance forums (e.g., business control committees) to ensure effective oversight and decision‑making.
- Oversee committee scheduling, agendas, materials, minutes, action tracking, and annual charter reviews and self‑assessments.
- Provide independent challenge and oversight of risk and control issues, escalations, and remediation plans across businesses and functions.
- Aggregate and synthesize risk, control, and audit findings for senior management, highlighting key themes, trends, and emerging risks.
- Develop and deliver executive‑level reporting on governance, risk, and control matters; ensure timely escalation of significant issues to senior forums as needed.
- Chair senior forums for prioritization, escalation, and risk acceptance; lead thematic remediation to address root causes.
- Build strong relationships with business, risk, compliance, audit, and technology partners; serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on governance, risk, and control topics.
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline governance processes, reduce bureaucracy, and enhance control oversight effectiveness.
- Lead or support governance‑related projects and initiatives across CIB.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree.
- Extensive experience in banking, operational risk, controls, governance, audit, or related roles within financial services.
- Experience leading global teams and complex programs.
- Strong knowledge of risk and control frameworks, regulatory requirements, and governance best practices.
- Proven experience managing or supporting senior‑level committees or forums.
- Advanced analytics and data management skills; proficiency with Excel and visualization tools; experience with executive MIS and data quality programs.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information for executive audiences.
- Strong organizational, project management, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- High level of integrity, independence, and professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CISA, CIA, CRISC).
- Experience within a Commercial & Investment Bank environment.
- Expertise in executive MIS and data quality program leadership.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and business acumen.
- Leadership and influence across matrixed, fast‑paced environments.
- Analytical and problem‑solving excellence with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven ability to streamline governance processes and enhance control oversight effectiveness.
