Description

The Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) is looking for an experienced leader to help run its communications program. This individual will develop, implement, and manage a communications program, including social media, in support of DMA’s mission. DMA is the only national political organization dedicated to electing, supporting, and elevating Democratic Mayors across the country. 

The ideal candidate has experience creating and executing media engagement strategies for a campaign, committee, or progressive organization, strong relationships with reporters and producers, and the ability to engage stakeholders to leverage and elevate messages through both traditional and nontraditional media. Candidates should be comfortable working independently in an ever-changing environment.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and execution of comprehensive media relations strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key journalists, reporters, and media outlets.
• Pitch media outlets and journalists to secure press coverage and story placements.
• Manage social media and rapid-response communications.
• Short Term Digital responsibilities.
• Organize media events, press conferences, and other media-facing activities.
• Foster a positive and productive team culture.
• Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in media relations.
• Strong media relationships, including national and political, and a history of securing significant media coverage.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
• Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to monitor, assess, and respond to emerging issues and communications opportunities in real time.
• Effective communication skills.

Location and Travel: DMA maintains its headquarters in Washington, DC. The position can be remote or based in Washington, DC. Some occasional domestic travel is required. 

Salary and Benefits: DMA offers a generous benefits package including health care, dental, and vision.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $125,000.
