Description
Saskatchewan Healthcare Employees’ Pension Plan (SHEPP) is Saskatchewan’s largest defined benefit pension plan. With over 60,000 active, deferred, and retired members across more than 50 healthcare employers, SHEPP plays a vital role supporting the retirement security of the province’s healthcare workforce. Headquartered in Regina, SHEPP is dedicated to delivering a modern, relevant pension experience. The Plan provides predictable, lifetime retirement income to its members—nurses, technicians, support staff, and other healthcare professionals who form the backbone of Saskatchewan’s healthcare system.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is accountable for the strategic and operational leadership of the organization and the effective administration of the Plan and the Fund. The CEO ensures the organization’s activities align with its mission, vision, and values, and works in close collaboration with the Board to develop and implement long- and short-term strategic plans. Once approved by the Board, the CEO is responsible for monitoring progress against these plans and for directing organizational resources to achieve defined objectives.
The CEO provides consistent, high-level oversight of Plan administration, investment performance, and member services in accordance with applicable legislation and governance frameworks. As the primary liaison to the Board, the CEO ensures informed decision-making by delivering high-quality reporting and strategic advice. The CEO also represents the organization to external stakeholders, builds effective relationships with members and employers, unions and cultivates a culture of excellence across the leadership team and broader organization.
The ideal candidate is an executive with experience that includes working in financial services and leading in a purpose-driven organization. Related experience that includes pensions or adjacent as well as a strong member focus is ideal. Alternatively, the candidate could be a progressive CEO in a member-focused business with a track record of cultivating high performance and innovation. Armed with superior communications and stakeholder management skills, the preferred candidate leads through influence, not authority, enjoys a visible leadership role, and has the vision and customer ethos to drive a member focused culture. A commitment to collaborative leadership, continuous improvement, and values-based stewardship will be essential in navigating the complexities of a jointly trusteed defined benefit pension plan.
Located in Regina, Saskatchewan, this is a compelling and rewarding opportunity to guide one of the province’s most important financial institutions in a role that offers both professional purpose and personal impact—supporting the retirement futures that touch on a significant portion of the province’s working population.
